Last week, the schools welcomed students back inside the buildings in our town. In preparation, my daughter began to pack her backpack.
When she opened the backpack, it had been slumped in a closet for more than a year. Untouched, unneeded.
Inside, a treasure. Waiting there were her school pictures from last year. They are breathtaking.
Sometimes I see one of my children, and I am gobsmacked. Look at you- your eyes, your smile. Think of you- your intelligence, your humor, your gigantic, tender heart.
At times like these, I am shaken by the sheer magnificence of who they are.
